Coca-Cola 'embarks on environmental awareness campaign'

Coca-Cola 'embarks on environmental awareness campaign' Category: Creative | 10th Mar 2010

Coca-Cola has announced that it will be switching off its illuminated sign in London's Piccadilly Circus for one hour in support of the World Wildlife Fund's (WWF's) Earth Hour.

Its pledge to join in with this environmental awareness campaign will see the brand's logo disappear for one hour on March 27th between 20:30 and 21:30 GMT to promote the climate change cause.

The WWF aims to convince one billion people worldwide to turn their lights off at this time as well and Coca-Cola is promoting its decision to flick the switch via an ad flashed up in place of its logo.

An integrated marketing campaign is also taking place, with the company creating outdoor posters and increasing activity on its website.

No doubt this will convince many people to take similar action - and hopefully buy a bottle of coke to sip on while they sit in the dark and save the planet.

Another business with green issues on the brain is eBay, which recently launched an eco-friendly offshoot called green.ebay.com.

The New York Times reported that the auction house believes buying used goods is as effective as recycling.
