'Anti Monarchist' advert pulled

'Anti Monarchist' advert pulled Category: Measurement | 07th Aug 2008

Australian brewer Coopers has withdrawn an advert following complaints it gave a political message.

The billboard advert was displayed prominently outside a large Sydney shopping centre and featured the slogan "Forget the monarchy, support the publicans".

Members of the Australian Monarchist League (AML) claim that the ad was selling its beer on the back of a political statement.

Philip Benwell, national chairman of AML, said: "This particular advertisement is designed to get people to support publicans, but it's also saying 'Forget the monarchy', and that's what we object to."

He suggested - perhaps in order to make his point - that the word monarchy should have been substituted for Republicans.

Coopers responded to the complaint by taking down the billboard ads and making an apology.

Recently drinks company Diadeo asked YouTube to remove a third-party amateur advert its said conflicted with its own responsible drinking practices.

At HS&P we're obsessed by measurement and proving the value of our work. So much so that we're happy to be paid by our results.
