Nokia releases first music handset

Nokia has released the first handset compatible with its Comes with Music package, which enables users to download as many songs as they want for free during a 12 month contract.
The 5800 XpressMusic phone will cost £129.95 on a pay-as-you-go-basis and will allow users to download up to 6,000 songs before the contract expires, all of which they will be allowed to keep.
The company hopes that this package, which will be released next year, will act as a creative marketing tool against Apple's iPhone, as the Finnish telecoms group attempts to become the premier mobile music brand.
When unveiling the package, Anssi Vanjoki, executive vice president of multimedia at Nokia, said: "We set out to create the music experience that people are telling us they are looking for - all the music they want in the form of unlimited downloads to their mobile device and PC."
Currently, the four major record labels - EMI, Sony BMG, Universal and Warner Music - have signed up as partners and similar deals have been reached with large independents.
