Carboncreditz loyalty scheme launched
Category: Sector focus | 21st Oct 2008
A number of the UK's leading retailers have joined the Carboncreditz loyalty scheme, which allows consumers to invest in carbon-offsetting products, Brand Republic has reported.
Tesco, Boots and Asda have joined more than 1,000 retailers and brands - including John Lewis - to have signed up to the initiative, in which shoppers will earn 'creditz' with every purchase that can be spent on green projects.
Specifically, consumers will be able to invest in carbon offsetting or environmentally friendly products such as energy efficient light bulbs, washing machines and refrigerators.
This loyalty programme will be backed by in-store and on-pack marketing activity, as well as press advertising - such as the 'creditz' give-away in the Independent newspaper this week.
Earlier this month, Mary Cowlett suggested that the number of consumers taking advantage of loyalty schemes and special offers is likely to increase as the UK's financial crisis gets worse.
