UK affiliate marketing 'set to grow'
Category: Measurement | 05th May 2009
The UK affiliate marketing industry will be worth over £4 billion in online retail sales this year, it has been claimed.
According to a report by Econsultancy named the Affiliate Marketing Buyer's Guide 2009, it is estimated that the market grew by 22 per cent last year to be worth £3.82 billion.
"Because it is rooted in performance, affiliate marketing is continuing to prosper as an industry and we believe the affiliate sector will remain at the forefront of e-commerce," said Econsultancy's research director Linus Gregoriadis.
An estimated £227 million was paid in commissions and fees to affiliate publishers and networks in 2008, the report asserted, with performance-based advertising attracting marketers.
While there have been some notable collapses of companies such as Woolworths making a negative impact, there remains heightened appetite for performance-based advertising, which makes up for some of the less positive aspects of the sector.
Last month, an Econsultancy and Guava report showed that firms are still investing in search marketing as both paid and natural search channels continue to deliver.
